The ENS de Lyon welcomes visiting academics from academic or research institutions from all over the world. They play a key role in raising the school's international profile and setting up new partnerships and cooperations.

"In-house" visiting academic campaign

The ENS de Lyon supports research and education through an active in-house visiting scholar campaign. Each academic year, 30 to 40 researchers or academics are hosted and selected by its scientific board.

Opening positions

The ENS de Lyon opens faculty, postdoc and PhD postions to foreign candidates.

Preparing your stay

Espace Ulys
Espace Ulys assists foreign scientists before they arrive in France and throughout their stay, for instance helping them open a bank account, secure health insurance and navigate through French administrative procedures.
"Scientific-researcher" short stay visa
For non-European researchers, the laboratory hosting you at the ENS de Lyon must fill out a Hosting agreement for visiting researcher ("Convention d'accueil d'un chercheur étranger") and submit it to the Office of International Affairs for signature at least one month and a half before your arrival.
This document is required to obtain a scientific visa.

Calls for projects & funding

The Collegium de Lyon
International and multidisciplinary Institute for Advanced Study hosting some 20 international researchers each year, with the aim to create an academic community based on a culture of excellence and exchanges between disciplines, cultures and languages.
Duration of stay: 5 to 10 months
Selection by an international scientific board.
PALSE Packages
The Programme Avenir Lyon Saint-Étienne (PALSE) offers welcome packages to assist foreign scientists with their move to the Rhône-Alpes region and help them set up their research team. Funding can reach up to €400,000 per year for three years.
Accueil Pro grant
A grant for foreign doctoral graduates, researchers or teacher-researchers joining public research laboratories in the Rhône-Alpes region as part of a COOPERA project.
Amount: €2,500/month for a duration of 3 to 10 months
Awarded only once to any one recipient.
