Application process

Procedures for registering in a French higher education institution vary depending on your nationality, your country of residence and your educational plans.
In about 30 countries, a common online process, called the CEF process (Center for studies in France), is required to obtain a student visa. 
For non UE countries that are not part of the CEF process, the process is in an ENS online platform. 

Language proficiency required

  • In the arts, humanities and social sciences: C1 level required (being comfortable enough in French to follow the program)
  • In exact sciences: B2 level in French and/or English required (being sufficiently proficient in French and/or English to follow the courses) [Read more]

The ENS de Lyon and its partners offer scholarships (Ampère & MILYON Scholarships) for excellent international students to enrol in its Master's programs in the Exact Sciences, the Arts, and Human and Social Sciences (except for FEADép Master's programs).

Admissions via CEF procedure

If you live in a country concerns by CEF procedure, you have to apply only through Portail études en France,  according to the dates indicated on the website.

Other countries - non UE

You have to apply to the Online Application
Deadline : opening on December, 19th 2018 (12 noon, French time), closing on January, 17th, 2019 (11.59 pm, French time)

Step 1

Complete, save and submit the online form

Documents to upload:
  • A transcript of your grades for your past and present studies, in French or in English
  • Certified copies of university degrees, in French or English
  • Copy of your passport or national ID card
  • Resume
  • Cover letter
  • Reference letter
  • If you are applying for a Master’s program in the Arts, Humanities, Languages or Social Sciences: a summary of your research project in French (1 to 2 pages maximum)
  • Certificate of Language Proficiency :
Arts, Humanities, Languages or Social Sciences candidates :  a certificate of Proficiency in French (e.g. DALF, DELF, TCF) 
Exact Sciences candidates: a certificate of Proficiency in French (e.g. DALF, DELF, TCF) and in English (IELTS or TOEFL).

Step 2

The incomplete application will not be take into consideration.
Results will be published on February on the online platform. 

Step 3

If your application is accepted, you will receive an email with practical information.
